Committees

Judiciary Considers legislation relating to the legal profession and statutes governing  technical legal matters such as the code of civil procedure, the criminal code, the code of criminal procedure, estate and trust law, court proceedings, and the administration of justice.
Assessment and Taxation Considers all matters relating to state tax policy including levying taxes, exemptions from taxes and the administration of laws relating to taxation.
Energy and Natural Resources Reviews legislation relating to the environment such as air and water quality, water resources, the disposition of solid waste, matters relating to fish and other wildlife and state parks.
Transportation and Tourism Deals with matters relating to all forms of transportation in the state including legislation concerning motor vehicles, highways, motor carriers, and railroads, as well as legislation of existing state tourism attractions and promotion of future tourist attractions for our state.
State Building Construction Study all 5 year capitol improvement and facility plans and budget estimates, progress and results of all capitol improvements to buildings for state agencies.
Correction and Juvenile Justice Provides oversight for newly created Juvenile Justice Authority as well as needed space for the adult Kansas Correction facilities.
Kansas Sentencing Commission Makes recommendations to legislature on sentencing guidelines, impacts on our prison population, and need for prison space.
Judicial Council - Probate Law Makes recommendations to Judiciary Committee on changes needed in Kansas Probate and Non-Probate Law section.  Presently drafting Kansas Uniform Trust Act.
Health Care Reform Oversight Oversees the necessary changes in state laws and regulations made necessary by federal law and, to the fullest extent possible, implement health care reform specific to Kansas needs.
